Now, all is said and done.
All seven years come down to none.
He swore she was his one and only love.
But, the love was never even,
She drove a bottle right between them,
Forced his hand to leave and start again.
He doesn’t know quite where to start
Or how to love another heart,
If he even has another part to give.
He said, “This road just keeps winding,
Can’t tell if it’s guiding me
Toward or away from the light.”
She stares down another loaded cup
Of bitter and black pick me up
To get her out and try her luck again.
She’ll waste the most part of her day
To work a job she mostly hates
For another dime to pave way to her dreams.
She wonders if it’s all a joke
That slowly chips away her hope,
She knows she’d rather die than choke up here.
She said, “This road just keep winding
Can’t tell if it’s guiding me
Toward or away from the light.”
We all wander ‘round our varied lives,
The ends to which we are not wise
And love the joy and mourn the strife we find
While we feign to be knowing
Like we can see where we’re going.
We’re lost, but we’re finding
Our hearts as we’re binding
To truth in the lining
Can’t tell if it’s guiding us toward or away….
This road just keeps winding
Can’t tell if it’s guiding us
Toward or away from the light.
This road just keeps winding,
Can’t tell if it’s guiding me
Toward or away from the light.
