What We’ve Got (Single 2017)

What We’ve Got

Yeah, you sure talk a lot
While you’re out there consuming god
like it was some screenplay afterthought.
The answers are out there,
I swear.
Oh, but they lack the plot.

And here, I loosened my grip
on the truth of all this
to take hold of your labored hand.
Pulled a key from my pocket,
closed my mouth and I locked it.
Lost sight of this quickening sand.

Old friend,
I hope you take this to heart,
we’ve got our own ways to go
and this is where we must part.

I’m going back home
where even the fools don’t speak
over a wise man listening.
I’m going back alone.
You’ve got a long road to walk
before you could see what we’ve got.

What a limiting kind of life,
bound here to this world of sight,
under the tyranny of light.
It makes you see things
for only what they look like.

Old friend,
I hope you take this to heart,
you can know the pieces of life
for only what they are.

I’m going back home
where even the fools don’t speak
over a wise man listening.
I’m going back alone.
You’ve got a long road to walk
before you could see what we’ve got.

Now, I’ll be on my way.
Kindly hand me my heart down off the shelf.
Don’t look so surprised,
if it’d do you any good I’d
have carried you there myself.

Old friend,
I hope you find what you are.
Old friend,
I hope you take this to heart,
I hope you take this to heart,
I hope you take this to heart,
I hope you take this to heart.
